Did You Ever Know… That You’re My Hero?

When someone is a good person, or a wonderful talent at something, or can speak their mind very well, or whatever it is, there will probably always be people who will, in a sense, worship that person. In their mind, that person is perfect, infallible, and an examples to “the rest of us.” And this makes life for these people neigh impossible. Because, they are EXPECTED to be perfect.

And that, as we all know, is not possible. No one will be exempt from making mistakes. Because, no one knows everything or understands everything without learning and growing and experiencing. And because this person has something to offer, you should be able to accept and take what they have with arms wide open. And do not make them into a god in your mind, because they WILL disappoint you at some time.

I also, oddly, speak from person experience. There are (very oddly) quite a few people who have this syndrome going with me. They think I am some marvellous, perfect, amazing, godlike person. Yeah, you got me? I don’t understand it. What I do understand, however, is that I make mistakes. The difference with myself and a lot of others, is I move on and learn from my mistakes. It’s not that I DON’T make mistakes, it is that I learn how to better not make them, or more accurately, how to do better. What happens, though, for these people if I make mistakes, is their image of me shatters. And a part of their world comes crumbling down. And who gets the blame? Me.

I get blamed for their inability to properly judge me. I get blamed for making a mistake. I get blamed for being me. Well, sorry, if my words had be listened to, it would be known that I am quite aware of a lot of the things wrong with me, and I also talk about learning and growing from mistakes… and accepting others in their failures to help them grow. So, don’t idolize me. Don’t idolize others.

Learn, that I am not your god.

Learn, to understand and to see another’s beliefs and values.

Learn, to accept someone if they HAVE failed, but they have grown from it.

Learn, that people DO make mistakes. It is only when they have done something with malicious intent or, sadly, the refuse to grow and learn and continue to repeat their mistake, that it becomes a problem.

There is a great movie about a man with a message who was idolized, and then when found not perfect, was punished. It’s called “Jesus Christ Superstar.” Go watch it.
