I spent this weekend in Las Vegas at an international (Canadians and Americans) street hockey tournament. There were two divisions: the “open” (read: skilled) and the “rec” (read: me). The open division had somewhere between 15-20 teams from across the U.S. and Canada and was great to watch. The rec division had six excellent teams (also from across the U.S. and Canada) and while they did not have the overall skill level of the open divisions teams, I have to say that the play was surprisingly equal among the teams which lead to some really amazing games.

My team, the SoCal Misfits, got second place, with the final game being 3-2 and decided in a shoot-out, after a full game plus overtime. It was a blast.

Here are a few extra highlights from the trip–at least what I caught while I still had battery power…

And, lastly, for those of you who felt the need to remind me to not break anything–I did not listen…

Congrats! Sounds like it was a journey worth taking! How much recovery time will you need? :P

Congrats, friend! Loved the photos! :)

Recovery time? What’s that? Heh.

Believe it or not, I am actually feeling really good. Yeah, I’ve got aches and pains and doing something physical in the next day or two would probably be a mistake, but overall I’m pretty happy with the condition of everything upon returning aside from the broken stick!

Thanks Jana!

I have not typically been a photo taker, but I’m trying to change that. It helps that the camera in my phone is good enough to take decent pictures now. The last thing I want is ANOTHER thing to carry.

Anyways, I’m glad you liked them because, up until now at least, it is a rare thing for me to do.

aww man, that looks like a lotta fun! wish we coulda been there. congrats on your new shiny! i say you start sporting it around the office. it’d be a nice addition to the manager’s meetings.

congrats on the effort,
We just attended a Hockey game between two Southern Cities so we can feel a bit of the excitment. ( Columbia whipped Charlotte’s ass).
why only six rec teams in all of US and Canada?

Nahh, you gotta frame the hockey stick and put it up in your office. When people ask, tell them that you’re not afraid to break things in your employ to get things done, and stare at them significantly.

Morale is sure to improve!

Congratulations!

I’m not really sure why there were only six teams. This is the second year of the event and it’s pretty much double in size from what it was last year. I know in the previous one there were only three rec teams. My only guess is that most of the people willing to come out for something like this are generally only the really serious players? I don’t really know.
