Deadlines and Resignings: What is next for the Ducks

Brian Burke is taking a different approach to dealing with Scott and Teemu this year: get on board or get out. Last year’s decision to allow two of his stars to sit on their laurels while contemplating retirement was a bold and contraversial move (which I think everyone hopes does not set any [...]

Second place!

I spent this weekend in Las Vegas at an international (Canadians and Americans) street hockey tournament. There were two divisions: the “open” (read: skilled) and the “rec” (read: me). The open division had somewhere between 15-20 teams from across the U.S. and Canada and was great to watch. The rec division [...]

Ducks trade Hnidy

All I can say is about freaking time and don’t let the door hit ya on the way out.

The Ducks announced on Wednesday that they have acquired right wing Brandon Bochenski from the Boston Bruins in exchange for defenseman Shane Hnidy and Anaheim’s sixth round pick in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. In addition, the [...]

Scott’s first game back

Wow, what a difference Scott makes.
He’s not the holy grail as evidenced by the fact that the Ducks lost the game tonight in a shoot out, but the boy can play. But, not only can he play, he can lead. He is obviously a motivator and I saw him often talking to the [...]

Niedermayer Is Back!

Well, it was a wait, but a wait that was well worth it. Scott Niedermayer has announced he is returning. It will take him 7-10 to get into NHL condition. We’ll have to see how long it takes for him to get to NHL playing level.

Sports for Short Attentions

Between yesterday and today, every team in the NHL played. While my favorite team, The Anaheim Ducks, are not doing so well, I cannot complain too much because hockey is hockey. I was never a “sports” person and I think that affects how I watch hockey. I love to watch any game, [...]

Preseason Ducks: 5-4 Kings win; Hnidy disappoints

I went to the first Ducks preseason game last night at the Honda Center.
There were more people there than I expected and it was a fun crowd. The season tickets I bought into are pretty high up (though, there’s not really a bad seat at the Honda Center, which is great) so I was [...]

Giguere gets another one…

I just read Giguere had surgery for yet another sports hernia. Are you serious?!
Two other key veterans also weren’t on the ice Tuesday — goaltender Jean-Sebastien Giguere and forward Samuel Pahlsson, each of whom underwent surgery a month apart to repair sports hernias. Giguere, who became an unrestricted free agent after the season, signed [...]

Scotty makes no decision

Scott Niedermayer held a press conference today to say that he had no decision about whether or not he was going to retire. For sure, he will be missing training camp and the season openers. If he stays around, most likely he will be out through Christmas, or so the rumors say.

I have to admit [...]

Anaheim Ducks WIN!

The Anaheim Ducks beat the Ottawa Senators 4-1 to win the greatest prize in sports… the Stanley Cup!
We are in the so-called era of the “new NHL.” The new rules are in place to make the game faster, more exciting, and to see more goals scored. And it has worked (whether or not [...]
